Day 1️⃣1️⃣

April Fools’ Day. It’s a day that consists of practical jokes and hoaxes usually amongst people. We consider it an annual custom. Though I know what date it lands on the calendar, I never really knew the history behind it. From researching, there are many theories brought to light, however, the exact origin of the day is not entirely known. Historians say April Fools' Day is linked to festivals such as Hilaria (Latin for joyful). This was celebrated in Rome towards the end of March by followers of a cult known as Cybele. This included dressing up in disguises, mocking people and even higher-power citizens. There’s also rumors that April Fools’ Day was tied to the vernal (meaning fresh or new like Spring) equinox when Mother Nature tricked people with changing unpredictable weather. From what I gathered, historians believe that April Fools’ Day goes back to 1582. When France changed the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. In the Julian calendar, the new year starts with the Spring equinox-April 1st. The change didn’t occur instantly but gradually across the country. Those who failed to acknowledge the start of the new year on January 1, continued to celebrate during the last week of March through April 1. They became the butt of jokes and hoaxes.

I haven’t had the privilege of pranking someone during this day, but many scenarios have come to my mind. One is at work. Since I make many client calls, the room is fairly quiet so that anyone can eavesdrop on the conversations if they wish. I thought about getting into an argument with a customer over the phone while my boss walks by. The conversation would gradually get heated as I start getting short. Of course, there’s no one on the other line, but I’d get to the peak when I use words that surprises my boss. Making him feel uncomfortable and come to my aid cause I was going to lose it. Not sure if I can pull it off, but it did sound better in my head. Maybe one day…
