A Good Omen

It’s the first day back to the office of the new year. I was somewhat looking forward to it to be honest, maybe there’s an expectation inside of me that positive changes are on the horizon. Or perhaps just catching up with the co-workers, spending time with the baristas while sipping my vanilla bean powder latte, the usual Target runs, etc. It’s been a few weeks now but felt I should get back into my routine of wisdom absorption. I’ve been hook on this show called ‘Don’t Keep Your Day Job’. Funny as it sounds, its quite awesome. She brings many guests on the show supplying in-depth stories and how people do what they’re meant to do on this earth. It isn’t about just quitting your daily job, but a sense of purpose. Using your best with what you have (emotionally, physically, spiritually…) to help or serve and grow your own business. You may think this is another scam on how to design your own business and be rich. The show isn’t about becoming fame, but being rich within yourself to shine a light from your core and expose those attributes to the world. Could be baking, dancing, web design, nannying, blogger, lawyering, psychology, etc. Everyone is valued and the show empowers you to be you and reach the next level one step at a time.

I sync my iPhone to my car and look for a good episode to listen. Came across one with a title of an entrepreneur along with his company and how he made it through the music industry. The reason why this stood out, was because the company name. The business was actually one floor below my office. I said to myself how awesome… have no clue what CD Baby is but sounds like a cool story. So I listened and wanted to share a take-away with you. The guest mentioned the following metaphor-

Basically sunlight on a log doesn't make the log catch on fire, but if you hold up a magnifying glass so the sunlight can concentrate on a single point on the log then you can make the log catch on fire. The metaphor being that if your energy is dissipated across a lot of things in life... nothing is going to catch fire. But if you concentrate all your energy on a single point on a single thing, something is going to catch. People are usually spread too thin-doing too much

Kinda hit me hard this one… Makes sense and such a great analogy. Of course now when I see sunlight on a log, I’ll always remember to not get scatterbrained and tackle one darn thing at a time.
